Welcome to the Sons of Norway, Desert Fjord Lodge # 6-133 web site. We hope that this site provides you with information and a sense of the fellowship and activities that the lodge engages in to promote Norwegian and Scandinavian cultures.
Our Scottsdale, Arizona chartered lodge
was the first lodge in Arizona. We take pride in offering members and the
community a wide variety of cultural and educational events. We are especially
proud of our members who teach classes in Norwegian language, Genealogy,
Rosemaling and Norwegian Cooking. We have hosted community concerts featuring
Knut Erik Jensen, now a member of our lodge and a renown Norwegian pianist and
Edvard Grieg expert. Over the years we have sponsored a wide variety of speakers
covering topics such as: "The Immigrant's Trunk", "The Building of a Stave
Church", "The Kon-Tiki Voyage", "Hardanger Fiddle - Presentation and
Performance", "A Visitor's Guide to Norway" and even an organized tour to
Norway! We've also presented a number of Norwegian and Scandinavian videos and
DVDs on our large projection system. We have one of the largest
Norwegian/Scandinavian libraries in Arizona consisting of literature (in English
and Norwegian), children's books, videos, DVDs, travel guides and more.
Whether you are an expert or a novice,
young or old; we believe we have something to offer you that will enhance your
knowledge of Norway and/or your own heritage. Please give us a try!
We hold monthly social meetings that include cultural presentations or activities. For more information about our meetings, follow the link below.
